It is specifically able to replicate when plaque is present in the arteries.
With America's obesity problem, maybe China thought this virus could knock the US down a peg or two.

We're not actually so sure that it isn't like other virii, post viral syndrome is common but the actual causes are largely unknown. It could well be that everything we're discovering about covid is actually extremely common in other viral infections, just to a lesser extent.
