#3"Physics of Semiconductor Devices" was a very useful and clearly-written book I read in the 90s - I must still have my copy somewhere. I didn't know the author had made such groundbreaking discoveries.

May I ask what course are you taking? I am interested in learning more background on semiconductors so I'm curious what you are studying.
The semiconductor devices course follows Simon Sze's book almost 1:1. I've found Neamen's "Semiconductor Physics and Devices" and Kasap's "Principles of Electronic Materials and Devices" also excellent for additional explanations.
