They don't need to make a living. They're already making a living by doing some other job, probably a boring job. They're writing because they enjoy writing, and there might be a financial payoff, but it's certainly not something they're banking on. May I then suggest that all software developers also should forego their paychecks and work for free, since they love programming and should do it in their spare time while having another day job? For example in a restaurant.

Yeah this is the best version. I liked newpipe but their attitude to sponsorblock is tiring. But I moved to libretube now. Newpipe kept throwing up errors when I jumped around a video.

I use sponsorblock on desktop, and sometimes I find the parts that they skip annoying. I don't fully agree with where and when they skip things. Watching Hot Ones today, they had a segment about how they have Hot Ones Hot Pockets now. and it skipped over it. But also, the hot pockets were a big part of the episode. For LTT videos, they skip the entire segue, instead of leaving the segue and then skipping the sponsor.…

I assuming people submitting sections for LTT videos are trying to get it to match the floatplane version, which I assume doesn't have the segues.

I prefer using it without auto-skip though.

FYI Google takeout lets you set regular, automatic exports of any of your Google data (e.g. you can have a backup of your YouTube subscriptions, playlists etc emailed to you every month).

IIRC, newpipe can even load the file from takeout and add all of your subscriptions from it.

The app functionality definitely isn't as good, but the installation process for Vanced was abysmal. NewPipe just installs itself and is good to go. That has a lot of value.

Yeah that's fair, although having an ad-free version of YouTube that was completely synced with your account had lots of advantages compared totthe seperate mirror world you get with newpipe.

Overall I'm glad both of them exist(ed), and they both had different strengths and weaknesses.

OR, hear me out... Subscribe to the patreon or other non-google revenue stream

There's a big distance between clicking the upvote button, which I might do on a dozen of videos a day, to financially supporting creators with $1 or more. If we had actual micro-payments though, that would help.

NewPipe also plays Soundcloud, Bandcamp, and has the entire media.ccc.de library and can do all those things with those services as well. One of my most used F-Droid apps.

Almost all of those you get from just using the normal website with uBlock Origin and a browser lol. Not really exclusive features.

Don't you have to be logged in to get all of those features? For obvious reasons I didn't even consider that to be a option, as the goal is to put as many barriers between Google servers and yourself as possible.

Yes but this is only for creators who are large enough. Smaller creators still get ads on their videos, but dont get paid for it

Right. Creators not in YT's partner program are not paid.

Should YT run ads on non-monetized content? It's a fair question, and I can see a justifications either way.
