Hi! I'm Patrick. I'm a backend SWE ~6 years into my career. I spent ~4 years at Amazon building large scale distributed systems. More recently I spent ~2 years at a venture capital firm building tools to help investors make quantitative investment decisions. For my next role, I'd love to get back to working on large scale systems, ideally in the finance space. Looking forward to hearing from you!Ask HN: Who wants to be hired? (October 2023)

Hey! I’m AJ, a seasoned software engineering leader with a robust background in developing and managing high-performing engineering teams as well as delivering longterm solutions. Some key highlights include:
* Orchestrating a plan at a Series B startup to expand the engineering department from 25 to over 80 employees as the company size doubled and two more rounds were raised totaling $143 million
* Ensuring that 50% of my 11 direct reports achieved promotions, while maintaining 0% turnover for two years (2021-2023)
* Championing greenfield project launches, contributing to an additional $60 million in revenue
* Won a global hackathon put on by the US State Department to help deter the use of illegal animal products and unethical farming practices during online shopping
Although I’m looking for the right, longterm fit, I’m open to contract, frational CTO, and consulting work. I can do anything from coming in to fix a bunch of legacy Angular code to helping build a resilient engineering culture that will grow with your businessRe: Ask HN: Who wants to be hired? Hello hackers and hiring managers! My name is David, a new graduate from UC San Diego. As a new graduate, I'm hungry to learn and build my skillset. While I've been out of school, I have been tirelessly working on projects such as BootMe -- an open-source workflow manager app. I am currently a robotics coach and a coding instructor at two different academies. I have professional software engineering experience at Roku and incorporate all that I've learned into my every day hacking.

I've been working at various startups or consulting for the past 8 years, building everything from mobile apps for NBA teams, to rewriting mission critical software for natural gas conglomerates, to creating realtime healthcare systems that have a five 9's uptime requirement.
I worked full time a healthcare start up for years, on a rotating 24/7, week long, oncall shift. I've navigated serious system outages caused by both internal, and external integration issues. I've written numerous retrospectives after incidents, documenting what happened, why and how it happened, and what measure we can take to ensure it doesn't happen again. I've built integrations with various observability platforms, and created internal tools where integrations weren't an option.
In these positions I've set up CI/CD platforms, designed numerous webs systems that were fully documented using infrastructure as code tools, integrated notification and observability platforms, regularly preformed PR reviews, pushed to establish better engineer practices (automated formatting, static typing, dependency management, coding style, etc), and have lead teams of other engineers on many projects.
I'm currently consulting on a few short term contracts and am looking to take on long term employment for an interesting project.
