I think, functionally, you have a point, but they wouldn’t sell nearly as many if it looked like a helmet. The devices have to be cool to sell, and headsets are uncool enough as it is. These companies want a mass market product, not a niche product that only tech enthusiasts can appreciate.

I mean, no one's going to use those if they aren't comfortable for long use. Looking cool is very low on the priority list.

Getting people to buy them is a superior barrier compared to getting people to keep using them afterwards. People won't appreciate how comfortable something is for long term use if they won't even start using it because it looks uncool compared to alternatives.
