Not really sure why this stands out to so many people. I believe the percentage of programmers who are women is something like 5-8%. Even being kind of generous, out of 12 people that would still not make an entire person.

Demographics might differ for AI researchers or other STEM fields adjacent but in general it seems odd to be surprised when it's literally how things have been for at least decades.

Not saying this is a good thing, that I know why it is like this, or what should be done if anything, I have no idea. But why act surprised? The gender ratio is super off balance for a lot of jobs. My career isn't that long but across four jobs, as far as I can remember, the ratio has remained about as skewed as publicly available metrics suggest it would be, not that I personally pay all that much attention.

Eh, I'm comfortable taking this further and dismissing it out of hand. This looks like a scam. Not the typical regular person type of scam, but the kind specifically targeted to "wealthy Silicon Valley idiot."

They've even got a disclosure on the front page.

What do you want Musk to do? Visit every university in the US and Europe to poach off the top women in AI, so that he could have a mixed team? Would that actually be good for the world? Let's keep Elon away from college women, for all our sakes.

are the researchers allowed to disagree with Musk? if the supposedly-objective AI they produce contradicts Musk's views, will he accept that he's wrong? or will he call it a bug, or pressure his researchers into training it to support his ideologies?

in short: do you really believe this is Musk producing an objective truth-aligned AI and not just a Musk-aligned AI?

It’s basically all dudes that jumped from FAANG to FAANG. Impressive but I would expect to see biologists, neuroscientists, physicists, psychologists etc

That's a very romanticized Michael Crichton experts-of-various-fields-get-together-to-solve-a-problem like scenario, but in reality, when you're an AI company and you have 12 people, you kinda need them to handle the AI basics first.

Say, we can hire a philosopher to ponder what a true apple should taste like, but you better hire first farmers with experience in growing apples.

There is literally nothing wrong with ethics in AI, or any other field of science.

What is wrong is this woke supremacist nonsense, that some imbecile in Silicon Valley can dictate the truth about the world according to the woke bible, that's where the problem lies. Americans have gotten really intolerant of other cultures and ways of life. There's 8 billion people on this planet, ffs. We don't need the heavy handed paternalistic nonsense of OpenAI.

If a study is published in a research journal why should ChatGPT not be allowed to give you a summary of it? Why should it be censored because the woke cultists find it too icky?
