#603I guess we know Google isn’t serious about Google Cloud any longer… I feel like this product is table stakes for a cloud. Does this mark a new transition for google leadership? Will google start to sell their unwanted businesses instead of just killing them?
Seems slightly more acceptable than killing, but one step better would be having the purchaser maintain the existing product so that users are less impacted by Google's attention deficit disorder.

Sorry but no. Navigating TO the registrar is convoluted, and the way billing is written and sent to you is hella mad.

#605This may be the last straw for me trusting Google. I say this as a paying Google photos user and owner of a pixel 6. If they kill THIS nothing is off the table. Time to find alternatives and even switch phones. No more all-in-ones platforms. For a solid alternative I recommend Porkbun. They do just domains and nothing else, with a clean no bullshit UI.
Any good alternatives to Google Photos?

That's awful. So someone pays them them, builds a website on their property and they still have you by the balls. I guess you'd only rent to add a redirect over to a new domain. TBF, there's no way that $200 is profitable for them to deal with the hassle of selling. IME offers only start to get accepted once you are in the range of $2000+

Probably not until they sunset free Gmail, at which point there will be millions of voices screaming out in terror.
I've been so nervous about this that I've been preemptively moving my emails over to domains I control (and using Fastmail).
I have used Fastmail, and it is good. Currently I'm using my own domain on iCloud+, as I'm already paying Apple for the right to do so. But that's the good thing about owning my own domain...I can take it with me.

Try getting someone that doesn't have that name to buy it for you so it's not obvious why you want it. It's hard to say on the price, but I would guess $500 absolute minimum.
