They can kill all 3rd party apps if they want, but all the mods are asking is for the functionality these apps are providing and Reddit is unable to provide. Instead of focusing on that or propose a plan for that, they are going over and removing the biggest fans of the site? Mods love the site so much that they spend huge amounts of their time for free making Reddit viable/usable. Now Reddit decides to punish them? Boneheaded move like Elon.

#7I have been to reddit, and it is a decent place to find answers, I even answered a few questions. But to me, it is a fancy USENET with pictures. It also may have the added ability to profile you based upon what you do on it.
But, I use USENET more, to bad people would not bring it back or make adjustments to it. You can have moderation there too. But I think there is a lot bureaucracy involved with creating a mod group (outside of alt). Maybe with a bit of work, it could be made easier to use.

This is what will eventually happen. The moderators who do it for free almost always crave power and are extremely biased. Most subs are a cesspool of arbitrary bans and overt condescension.
Mods will often lock threads if it fits within the sub guidelines, but supports a topic they don’t like.
They’ll find a small argument somewhere in a comment chain and lock the thread, leaving behind a pinned comment such as “Locking the thread since you all refuse to behave”.
It’s ridiculous. Especially since arguments spanning hundreds of comments are often allowed if the mods dislike the person/topic being dunked on.

We're both being downvoted but you're absolutely right. These are core issues and spez finally seems to be addressing them.
I wonder if the crowd going to Lemmy is the Merari set - if so that's a huge potential improvement for Reddit and a curse for Lemmy.
"Y'all can't behave" is such a weird meme, it's so patronizing.
