It says they’ll only honor existing prices for 12 months after the transaction closes. Any recommendations on where/how to transfer to get a) similar price, b) mail forwarding, and c) self-service subdomains? (Maybe the last two are standard—I have no idea since I’ve always used Google Domains)

I’ve used namecheap for many years and have started using porkbun recently. Both have given me no problems, have reasonable prices and have those features.

Looks like Namecheap is $15/year. That’s a 25% increase over Google Domains, although not a huge amount in absolute terms.

Porkbun advertises $10/year, which would be great, if true.

At least we now know that Google really can't commit to anything. What was even the point of restructuring into Alphabet if they're never going to do anything other than ads, search, videos, and email.

Ads are being dismantled by the EU, search by chatGPT, videos run on the same ads. I guess that leaves email.

A terrible email experience that doesn't allow you create tabs such as school, bills, shipping orders with status, etc...

you can use cloudflare for all three.

Looks like Cloudflare doesn’t mark up domain registration pricing? Thanks for the suggestion!

Me with 100+ domains with Google: chuckles I'm in danger! I should have known. I started a transition for most of my stuff to cloudflare anyway. I kind of figured this would come eventually.

what do you mean by "in danger"?

It’s a reference to [1].
