Why are south Asians dying of heart disease?

One of my doctors told me that many of his vegetarian patients were dying from heart disease due to the amount of starch in their diet. A starchy diet is relatively inexpensive and tasty but if you are not careful you can eat too much of it and quickly gain weight.

I suspect that this is the reason people are dying from heart disease in south Asia.
