Yup. I definitely see the appeal of having your phone and tablet be the same thing. I'm sure these will get cheaper eventually if they work well.

Not surprised at all by the cost it's a lot different product and very new. There's people paying 1K for normal phones.

I don't feel it's absurd. For every product in the market there is a luxury version for people who's insensitive to price (hello LVHM!)... except for phones. If you have all the money in the world the most expensive / exclusive phone you can get is an iPhone, Samsung Fold, or this Pixel Fold.

They're hoping to sell to you based on the value it provides rather than the cost to produce the thing. Classic sales reframing tactic for obscene 500%+ margin products: You should buy this thing far above market rate because it's worth a lot to you, not because it's priced at a realistic BOM + labor + reasonable profit margin.

How is this phone far above market rate? Which competing products with equivalent functionality are far below it?

139.7mm x 79.5mm Just imagine, they would remove the crap in the middle and sell it for a reasonable price. Finally an android flagship with proper sizing and GrapheneOS.

The Pixel 7 Pro body is 162.9 x 76.6 mm, giving it an area of 12,478 mm^2. The Pixel Fold body is 139.7 x 158.7 mm, giving it an area of 22,170 mm^2. So the area of the folding phone is almost twice the size! This was surprising to me since, as you say, the diagonal lengths are similar. Of course, it's due to the Fold having a more square shape.

Caveat: this is measuring the size of the phone itself, not the screens, since that was easier to find.

An inch in aspect ratio is a relatively large change, considering it entails ~70% of an inch in both dimensions. It would be better to compare screen area or vertical and horizontal dimensions separately, to get a clear picture of the difference.

The most expensive iPhone is $1699, which is a 14 pro max with a whopping 1 TB of storage. With 128gb it’s only $1099. I agree, seems pretty aggressive.

1TB iPhone pro max is $1,600, not $1,700.

I don't want a crease in my screen, which I've seen on every single one of these used for any length of time.

as a person who has daily driven a fold for almost 2 years the "crease" is a complete non-problem when you are using it. its mostly just people who havent actually used it that complain about it because they heard some influencer complaining about it or they saw a picture someone took of it with a studio light blasting down on it at the perfect angle.

pixel fold doesn’t seem to have a stylus, does it?

You don't necessarily need one to come with the phone; there are third-party stylus(es?), and as long as you have a decent way to store it in your pocket or on the the case, it's still handy.

pixel fold doesn’t seem to have a stylus, does it?

I use a Fold 4, which technically doesn't either, but Samsung provides a sort of dumb stylus that works pretty well plus case for some small additional amount. I imagine Google can do something similar.
