hi I’m Adam!

I like to solve hard problems, speak at conferences, and bike with my kids in my free time. I would like to put my skills in Python, architecture, and team mentorship to good use while learning more about applied AI.

Unfortunately after shipping some awesome stuff at Discord my son developed Leukemia and required a stem cell transplant, after working during his medical treatment for a year and a half I was suffering from severe burnout and had to take some significant me time. I am now eager to get back to what I love, solving interesting problems.

I have 15+ years as a software engineer, 15+ years as an educator, and 10+ years managing and building projects as an entrepreneur. After a decade dedicated to building a non-profit to locally address equity in tech, it’s time to bring my talents back to the tech sector, ideally aligned with my vision of an inclusive and equitable world.

Roles: Applied Scientist/Research Scientist/Machine Learning engineer/Data Scientist.

I'm a PhD candidate in electrical engineering, graduating in Spring '23. I research reinforcement learning (RL) for control under disturbances/faults. My work is applied to drones and smart buildings. I develop high-performance python simulations for experiments, and maintain/deploy RL controllers in production on campus buildings. Previously I worked as an Applied Scientist Intern at AWS (predictive analytics/signal processing), and had research roles in start-ups and university labs.
