Show HN: Microsoft Designer – From Idea to Designs in Minutes, Using AI

#1
Hey, We all have ideas for visuals that we wish we could quickly bring to life for social media and other daily needs - but we don't all have the design skills to make it happen.

To solve this, we built Microsoft Designer (designer.microsoft.com) to help quickly and easily create just about anything you can describe. You can type in an idea (try "a retro post advertising a summer concert series") or add your own content, and Designer will generate one-of-a-kind designs with AI.

As you’re creating, Designer has ideas for you all along the way. Things like adding a little motion, adjusting your layout, trying out different GPT-generated headlines, or trying crisp AI images generated with DALL-E.

When you’re ready to share to your socials, Designer offers suggestions for AI-generated captions and hashtags to get more engagement and can automatically resize your designs to share across multiple platforms.

We launched Designer 6 months ago via an early access waitlist. Our waitlist customers sent us some great feedback, filed plenty of bugs that we’ve since addressed, and now we’re making it available to everyone.

We can’t wait for you to try it out and let us know your thoughts! And we’d love to hear how we can make it even better.

Microsoft Designer is built from the ground up to make graphic design easier than ever. We use a combination of in-house AI, DALL-E and ChatGPT to create stunning designs in seconds.

I lead product for Designer and would be happy to answer any questions or take any feedback of what you'd like to see next!

“Design” and “designer” are too generic terms. The web page doesn’t really tell me what this is about. You say “create just about anything you can describe”. But I guess this tool maybe is not for designing (say) clothes (as in cuts), or a 3D model, or a floor plan, or a CPU, or a business workflow, or a software architecture, or a PowerPoint presentation. My best guess from the web page is that it is for creating single-page 2D documents with images and a bit of text, but I’m not really sure.

Thanks for asking - Designer helps make design for social media and other daily use cases like postcards, event posters etc. super easy

Suppose you get an idea for a tech event and want it to stand out - you would typically go to design tools and find the right template, add text and images and then drag the elements to ensure design looks good overall.

Designer aims to simplify this - you could just share your idea "a tech event about AI trends" and Designer will find you the template, images and even title (using GPT). You can then just review and make simple edits and you are good to go - this should save you a lot of time.

I would love if you would try the product (you just need to login with your Microsoft account) and share your thoughts on what you liked/disliked :)

This has preview tag with it, but seems quite elaborate as it currently stands. I was just experimenting with it and found it quite easy to use.

Yes, we were in waitlist for 6 months and just opened it to public to try. Glad you liked it. Would love to get your thoughts on the experience and if you are facing any challenges
