This is a very German thing. I’ve never seen ID cards from other countries that include an address of residence. Also the obligation to own an ID card is a very foreign concept in most other countries. I had that issue with German companies before, especially those who rarely deal with international customers. For example in Austria only a few people own an ID card (most people have a passport, but not everyone). So…

I use an M1 Mac, and I'd prefer to develop and deploy on the same CPU architecture. For M1 users the x86 is an alien cross-compilation target.

This probably won't last, the servers aren't fully loaded with VMs yet.

I regularly get 3-5gbit on their regular cloud servers to consumer ISPs. They definitly don't overbook their vms regarding bandwith.

To be fair Ampere Altra is old now too. Kinda a contemporary with Ice Lake and the tail end of Skylake. Hetzner offering them right now is curious. Maybe its a pipecleaner for the next Ampere gen?

The new Altra developer kit is also very cheap. I wonder if Ampere is dumping overstocked inventory. Given their track record I don't expect the One to be available any time soon.

I think they really care about two things: VAT and cryptocurrency. Passports are required to prove you should or should not pay the 19% VAT, and crypto (namely, SIA) destroy their servers.

You prove you don't reside on the EU, and they don't bill you the VAT.

(But I believe the KYC rules aren't only because of this.)

Spain also has the address in the DNI (national document of identity), and as the Germans Spain's citizens are also required to have such a document. Many public and private services will ask for your DNI if they need to validate your identity.

You probably want podman, not Docker, on RedHat (and SuSe).
