I think Zuckerberg is a sociopath but this chat log often gets dredged up and it’s never been verified. It could be real but it could be an urban legend or an internet echo or the reincarnation of tubgirl.

Short of Zuck confessing to the authenticity of those messages, what sort of verification would you even expect? If Business Insider was libeling him, why didn't he sue them for it? The quote is consistent with his behavior and attitudes since then, and with other accounts of his behavior and attitudes at the time. I don't see any reason to believe it's a fake quote. People on HN get upset when the quote is posted be…

The NSA uses private data to spy on potential dates, of course Tesla uses private photos they collect to mock customers or for prurient purposes. It makes me laugh when Congress talks about banning TikTok because it can be used by China to spy on US citizens while completely ignoring all the US companies that can and do spy on US citizens. If they really wanted to stop this behavior they'd pass stringent regulations.

Seems like a lot of commenters came away from this article thinking that Tesla employees are seeing and sharing images from inside the car? Because that’s not what was reported, and it’s not what happened. But they certainly didn’t go out of their way to make that clear. If the car drives past someone who is naked, the cameras record it, and the driver has opted in to data sharing, then someone on Tesla’s labeling te…

> thinking that Tesla employees are seeing and sharing images from inside the car? It's worse! The cars recorded videos (while off) of private residences, garages etc. The lead quote is "we could see them doing laundry and really intimate things. We could see their kids" If that doesn't cause you concern, I don't know what would.

Wait until you get the Tesla bot inside the house

Musk was not a founder. He might have been an early investor but he didn't found the company. Stop lying with your fucking propaganda. I hope Musk bought you a pony for your bullshit. You are a musk shill. Stop trying to rewrite history you shill.

Musk is a founder in literally every sense of the word. He joined the company early, was a key investor, designed early products, and had a major leadership role (chairman of the board and then CEO) - from the start. In addition, the matter has been adjudicated in a court of law - Musk is a founder. The company Tesla recognizes him as a founder.

Against the overwhelming and undisputed evidence and common sense you have only childish insults. You don't even try to make your case. Sad, but at least you know you're wrong.

It’s not on unless you turn it on. Also: black tape is a thing.

Accepting that privacy intrusion is the default state and putting the onus on users to individually combat it will lead us to some very dark places.

It’s off by default. How is that intrusion?

I decided I’m never buying a Tesla because of this.

Does that mean that up until now you thought Tesla is a company full of ethical people? And when I say "ethical people" I mean either the low level individuals wouldn't go violate their customer's privacy, AND the higher level individuals would put in place security measures that would make it impossible for the low-level employees to violate their customer's privacy?

Seriously, in your mind what changed?
