an issue with routing by domain name and not expecting the extra character, or something else entirely?

routing by domain name. recently made an infra change and switched from apache to traefik for the loadbalancer

Correct. The cloud-to-butt plugin was quite literally banned at AWS after this. But most of us at AWS found it hilarious.
