The Ambassador Bridge - the busiest international crossing in North America - is also a privately-owned toll bridge.

The owners have been so successful in preventing any public improvements that they think would compete that after a few decades of fighting, the Canadian government offered to fully-fund a replacement bridge on the other side of Detroit. I think it’s getting close to being finished. No idea how much the US/Michigan is actually paying.
