Why not? It's oauth with set permissions... very common nowadays and secure.

There are plenty of people who have ethical objections to using any google product like myself. I don't have any google accounts and I definitely won't make one to try out someone's product

Curious what mail provider you use in that case and -- aside from username/password -- there are other SSO/OAuth providers that you would use.
