This isn't entirely relevant, but I just want to say I am sick of our society's obsessive fascination with TV. It's solitary, sedentary, and passive. And then we bitch and complain when the people cracking this whip make it more obnoxious, more expensive, and even less entertaining. Every show feels the same. The actors seem interchangeable. There's such a limited subset of permitted stories and things that can be sa…

Well, ok then, I guess anything entertaining is off limits. Is that the bad-faith argument you are making? Maybe I should have rephrased that to 'passive' entertainment.
How is a video game superior to TV? Storylines on prestige TV shows blow most videogames out of the water
Putting charity to the claim, since you do have to interact with games, I could see how the thought could be that they are more mentally stimulating. Gambling, of course, gives the lie to that claim. Addictive does not mean productive, and all of that.
That said, why do so many folks obsess over productivity?

This is incredibly stupid naming. I saw these prices and just entirely gave up even thinking about premium until I saw the note (and then I still gave up on it, anyway).
If you use an Argentina VPN, it's ~$2/month

I enjoy watching sports, I don't see how playing a videogame isn't another form of "worshipping entertainment". I also go to the gym and cycle outside, people are allowed to like things
HN viewing videogames as more sophisticated or intellectual than TV is hilarious ngl. Reverse Boomerism

The video game industry is quickly approaching the television industry. It has become simply an interactive tool for narrative delivery. Its simply a matter of time before the cancerous growth of capitalism gets its fingers into the media even deeper. Mark my words. Gaming is trending towards subscription service, and advertising will only find its way deeper into the way content is delivered until your sessions are…
It certainly feels that way. I am playing fewer and fewer new titles, and find that I keep returning to classics. Even 'indie' stuff is starting to feel very same-ish

> I guess anything entertaining is off limits I was just using your own words to show you the 2 quoted statements you made are in direct opposition to each other. They are all entertainment. That's all.

Idunno, beating Cyberpunk 2077 elicited more of an emotional reaction from me than anything TV or movies has done. Baldur's Gate, Anachronox, Oblivion, hell even the old final fantasy games had so much more going for them story-wise than pretty much anything Hollywood could come up with save for its most longest-running series.

#79I dislike price rises, and related I dislike paying for expensive sports licensing I don't watch. Sports fans should pay for sports instead of everyone subsidizing it. That being said, as someone who helped family move off of cable in the last year, this is only inching closer to cable's headline pricing which is largely a fiction. All the big four providers of cable/satellite have the following pricing: - Advertised…
I worked for a Telco (that also did Cable TV).
The marketing team would literally sit around a conference table and discuss how they were going to raise quarterly revenue by $amount so they would get their bonuses. Someone would suggest a connection fee. Or a disconnection fee. Or a change service fee, increase existing fee, call out fee, paper bill fee, credit card change fee, new equipment fee,.....
They really would sit around and invent this stuff purely to increase revenue, because that was the goal.

Google has decided to use Youtube branding for anything media related. Youtube Music instead of Google Play Music, Youtube Movies & TV instead of Google Play Movies & TV (which is hanging on for now).
Oh wow, I just assumed Youtube Music was some kind of subscription to watch official music videos on Youtube (the website) for the past few years. Until I read your comment. wow.
The thing that you get when you click on Music in the left sidebar of YouTube.
