Yeah companies and their small minded "sysadmins" are very eager to use an IP address as the primary predictor of hostile intent, sometimes they add user-agent as well. Not sure why but this is the sort of behaviour why I cannot trust such companies with my business.

Really? Been running few dedicated servers for several years straight without a fail. Even Herzner cloud just works and I don't know how they do it but it's dirt cheap.

How many is a few?

If you've have 500 servers for a long time, and a new script discovers 5% have a failure and sends 25 emails at the same time, I can see why Hetzner might want a single email. Numbers made up, but you get the idea.

Recently moved some workloads from GCP to a dedicated Hetzner box with 12900k, 128GB ram and 2TB NVME raid. This thing SCREAMS, running e.g Postgres with the same capacity in GCP would probbably cost > $1k/mo. Hetzner takes around 120 EUR. Also the bandwidht is like 10x cheaper with much larger free tier.

Having half the RAM is caused by the fact that both Raptor Lake and Zen 4 are limited to 64 GB of DDR5-4800, unlike the older CPUs (e.g. 5950X) that used DDR4-3200 memory. Increasing the memory to 128 GB, i.e. to two DIMMs per channel, drops the memory speed, more severely for AMD (DDR5-3600) than for Intel (DDR5-4400). Overclocking the memory, like in gaming computers, would be unacceptable in server computers.

Using XMP to deliver the rated memory speeds is considered overclocking by some since at least in the DDR4 days the spec said DDR4 was 2133 only.

Is this any worse than not even knowing when parts of your AWS instance are failing?

If I search my emails: "EC2 has detected degradation of the underlying hardware hosting your Amazon EC2 instance"

It's just something you have to do yourself with Hetzner.

Fire was OVH? Or different incident?

Both are an insane amount of compute for the price.

Just for comparison, for that kind of money per month AWS will rent you about 2 cores / 4 threads of AMD with 16 GB of RAM.

That's just the compute though, not including bandwidth or disks. These come with effectively the equivalent of ~$3k worth of AWS data transfer and vastly more SSD storage.

I use them, and I've been very happy with both pricing, reliability and the service.

Only possible bad thing to say about them: their static IP's aren't always "clean": I had a couple of instances where the IP I was allocated was blacklisted and it took some back and forth with their customer service to fix the problem (got a new IP).

But other than that quality / price ratio is way higher than GCP, AWS and their ilk.

I also use OVH, they're pretty decent as well, in the same ballpark as Hetzner.
