Augmend is developing human x ai x human collaboration for software development teams, reducing collaboration friction through an AI-assisted team workspace that has the ability to hook into various team tools, actions, and workflows paired with an assistant. We're looking for founding engineer types who can help us plan out the product, move fast, build great things for our first set of customers, and influence the culture we want for the company while still a super small and cohesive team. This is a chance to be among the first couple hires! There are four positions currently open, and we call out specialities but are looking for folks who like to put on their generalist hat too and learn outside their core are.

* Software Engineer, Frontend - Design and develop our web based multiplayer team space. Know and crea deeply about performance and great developer experiences.

* Software Engineer, Backend - Develop the services that support cross-team communication and interfacing with the ML models, working on AWS infra and distributed systems problems.

* Software Engineer, Applications - Develop the client applications that make all this possible, running apps across Windows, MacOS, and Linux.

* Machine Learning Engineer/Applied Scientist - Design and develop the end to end natural language understanding systems that power our team actions/context understanding and assistant. Work with other engineers to set up evaluation, training, and data pipelinee/workflows across search (currently using embeddings based search techniques), information retrieval, and Q&A + natural language generation (currently using LLMs).

It is a high impact high volatility opportunity. It’s not for everyone. If you can’t pass a drug test or a SF86, or need a ton of income, it might not be for you. But it is for some. Accept it for the tour of duty it is. Instead of an equity lottery ticket, you’re getting paid to improve public goods at nation state scale. We all seek different comp.

USDS requires an SF86 now??

I was told I’d have to pass one. Might not apply to all roles or assignments. Ask your USDS recruiter before the process if you have concerns you won’t be cleared.

Our approach to error correction is based on the cat qubit, which belongs to the family of superconducting qubits. It is designed to autonomously suppress certain types of errors at the hardware level and was developed by Alice & Bob and its academic partners. This allows scaling up the number of qubits in a more hardware efficient way, and puts us in the race against tech giants such as AWS (which are also following this approach), Google and IBM.

Per provided link https://www.usds.gov/apply : "Salaries in government change every year. For 2023, you may be paid up to $183,500 depending on where you are located in the United States."

The federal government pays pretty well for scientists and engineers.

I've got a few friends at JPL and they are paid around that.

I was a researcher under UC Regents many years ago, run by the state of California. That pay, however, was terrible. When I left for private industry I asked for double what I had been making and they considered me a bargain.
