With police already understaffed as they are, how would they enforce a bunch of students parking illegally next to campus and blocking traffic?

Assuming police are charging to get your car back then it would probably be quite the profit center for them to enforce in that situation. I would be more concerned about them over enforcing parking infractions as a matter of dept policy, than I would be of parking infractions being ignored.

Not true, at least in my state. If you buy a car with a loan, you own the car and the financer has a lien on it. You unequivocally own the car, though. The only restrictions that the financer can put on your use of the vehicle are ones that you agreed to in the loan agreement. Huh, which state is that? Every car I've ever financed, the bank owns the title until the loan is paid off. Exactly the opposite of mortgaging a house, where I've owned the deed but the bank put a lien on it.

You are just a peasant that pays for the hardware and tne repair bill and is allowed to drive it unless you break one of the clauses in 900 page EULA

This is why I only buy old cars. If that becomes impossible in the future, that would be enough to get me to finally give up owning a car entirely.

Me too. Just need to make sure I live where I can walk and bike as I get old.

Fascinating that you arrived at such a similar phrase for this. In my group we call them ‘park anywhere lights’ I spend 3+ months a year between Fukuoka and Tokyo, but outside my group of friends this concept has never really been discussed.

I also agree on the baseline level of respect and order, going back to Sydney is sometimes jarring where some things don’t ‘just work’ as they do here.

This is why I only buy old cars. If that becomes impossible in the future, that would be enough to get me to finally give up owning a car entirely.

Same, at least in part. I wish there was a database or wiki of some sort that collected when every model stopped being un-connected and adopted the rest of these user hostile features.
