I assume they distributed non-Play Store APKs and it all quietly worked without any drama - that's how it is for Amazon, and how it's meant to work.

It was a complete failure.

I mean, in terms of whether they succeeded as a business, sure. One competitor failing doesn't mean competition is impossible or unimportant.

The entertainment systems are really quite dull, go checkout toyotas default interface in 2021.

Oh, I mean I'd probably end up killing someone. It sounds hard and I don't know how you become an expert in it.

Just to be clear "car os" != engine control system.

As a longtime apple customer, the quality and innovation in my M1 pro is absolutely in line with their old values.

Yes, I agree that hardware-wise they’re on top of their game¹. I was specifically thinking of software and services, like the trend of trying to upsell you to their services when using their apps or releasing half-baked apps which go against their own Human Interface Guidelines and are never fixed. ¹ Let’s see if that continues with Evans Hankey leaving.

Which apps do that?

Not everything is a conspiracy. It's very obvious that Musk cutting jobs at Twitter had them/him take the brunt of the news cycles about the job cut because it happened first. Each subsequent company has faced less and less blowback. I'm sure they've all been wanting to do this for a while but didn't want the headlines.

The remarkable thing is how little using Twitter actually changed. The biggest change from cutting a bunch of staff seems to be... increased velocity?

Well, yeah, except its core ad business is in shambles: https://www.reuters.com/technology/heres-what-twitter-lost-a...
