Malice is usually very intentional. Malice is certainly something we need to worry about, however like introducing an invasive species to an unequipped ecosystem, humans have an uncanny ability to unintentionally wreak havoc with their seemingly innocent innovations.

Algorithms being instructed to tune themselves to generate clicks can turn a cute platform for sharing and remixing cat videos into a 25% increase in teenage depression.

The far more threatening aspect of AI is how as average consumers interact with an AI, it tends to over-fit on hate and fear.
