#12It's been fun following Nikita's twitter from the prelaunch announcement, to the "human trafficking" rumor scandal, to a national phenomenon, to the real life experience of my 14 yo nephew being obsessed with it, and finally to this acqui-hire. Masterful execution throughout and a testament to what's still possible because of the internet. 4 friends hacking away in their apartment with zero outside funding to million…
My concern is that no well-intentioned company will pay 8-9 figures for such an app, so it's likely a data harvesting and/or advertising operation which is disgusting especially when it comes to kids.
Discord already has Facebook level tracking, and in some cases even more.
They don't delete anything.

Discord already has Facebook level tracking, and in some cases even more. They don't delete anything.
I mean, they don't automatically delete your account and messages after 5 years. They did get fined for this.
But I don't want them to do this. Keeping my messages is the service they are providing to me, the customer. I would be furious if they nuked my account as the regulator suggests. This isn't like advertising companies hoarding data indefinitely, because it's actually in the users interest. It's a shame regulators choose not to see the difference

That is basically the correct interpretation of the youth slang. "Bob observed some of John's best qualities and successes aloud to the group. Bob really gassed him up."
This sounds like really old slang that was old when I was little. (^_^);;

#17This app sounds disgusting. This just looks like Tinder for children. Note the app was created by "Find Your Crush":

It's an app for children to talk about who of their friends they think is hottest. And course, if these kids give the company a shred of sweet sweet money, they'll even tell you their full name. Without telling the voter.
Children should not be allowed to use the internet.

I missed the whole boat were we happily started sharing all our personal data with giant companies from oversee countries with abysmal privacy laws solely for internet confirmation

#20Discord is notorious for being infested with moderators who try to groom/target teenagers and children, so them acquiring more access to teenagers could be a problem.

To be fair, it's what discord has built. The horrible moderation tools and the basically non existent spam & scam protection is completely their own fault.
It's a platform for children after all.
