You keep using a lot of words that basically boils down to "i really don't know what i'm talking about"

Our current "AI" systems are just fancy automatic copy & paste engines. All they do is remix the input data and spit it back out. This is why AI art engines are great a creating composite images, but hopeless when you ask it to produce something completely novel. If conservatives want a fascist chatbot they can train their own off of 8chan, Stormfront, Parlor, etc...

I have the sneaking suspicion that "woke" has been turned into a dog whistle used by right leaning people. Maybe it's the new "uppity." Given how commonly it is used on this website which I otherwise appreciate, I would love to be convinced that this is not the case. To that end: 1) Can anyone who freely uses the word "woke" pejoratively please define "woke" as you use it? 2) Can you please tell me the opposite of "w…

> Mind you, this is not the same liberal politics from a few decades ago. Might it be that those who occupy the left-of-centre political space hold more nuanced and varied positions than the sort of monolithic bloc that you would have readers believe? Yes, at both poles of the political axis there are those who strive to impose their own purity tests - whether it’s over pronouns, or guns, or immigration, or the prope…

I think (and hope) that you are correct.

But I also think that, even though what you said can be true, that there has also been an increase in how these political positions are becoming more extreme (both on the left and on the right!) and how these extreme positions are becoming more frequent and accepted.

I think that these extreme ideas/views and conflicts have been greatly amplified by social networks and information bubbles.

Or maybe it's just that these extreme cases are more visible now, I don't know.

But I am still quite worried that we are not heading in a good direction.

It is disturbing that, in American politics, "conservative" is basically synonymous with "right-wing nationalist." They've managed to turn a useful term used by a minority into a pejorative, "bias." At a time when it is really hard to distinguish fact from fiction in media we're on the verge of having super-convincing auto-complete generating a deluge of generated media. It seems it is becoming a political goal to in…

The models have to be multiple and democratized. There can be no single model just as there can be no single branch of government that has all power.

Well sure, but only because it was legalized despite decades of fervent objections from them. After legalization it became undeniable that conservative fearmongering on the issue was total bullshit.

I'm not well-versed on what the fearmongering was that turned out to be bullshit, because I wasn't a voter for most of it. Besides obvious hysteria, were there strong, substantive arguments against it that turned out to be false? Or do you consider any objection to gay marriage as "conservative fearmongering", because the strength of your position for marriage equality is such that there are no conceivable legitimate…

Your earlier arguments about how the government should not exercise negative rights, e.g. taking things away from you, as well as your proposition that conservatives advocate that the government should leave the private sector to handle things would seem to be in complete conflict with the idea that the government should be able to control who can and cannot get married.

This is a really important topic, and good that Vice is bringing it up now versus 5-10 years from now. I think they miss the more general point. It's clearly biased in its outputs, but the article dismisses this concern as "the end result of years of researcher trying to mitigate bias against minority groups". The way I interpret that is "its not biased, because its biased in the way we want it to be". If AI becomes…

> then whoever gets to decide what is and isn't bias will be very powerful over the next 50 years.

Is the lack of bias a bias in and of itself? Adversarial systems can smudge data to remove the correlations between the training data and characteristics such as race, religion, etc - does this constitute bias?

I have never seen this happen before.

I am owed no explanation, but huh? What just happened and maybe why?

Thanks.

Hmm, this seems on topic and was the opposite of flame bait. I am confused. I was genuinely curious in the interest of discussion and learning. The OP had the word "woke" it, and was not removed even though it is clearly all about politics. I don't get it.
