Remember OpenAI's original mission statement? > OpenAI is a non-profit artificial intelligence research company. Our goal is to advance digital intelligence in the way that is most likely to benefit humanity as a whole, unconstrained by a need to generate financial return. Since our research is free from financial obligations, we can better focus on a positive human impact. Let's just say that their goals have obviou…

There are two OpenAIs. OpenAI LP is for-profit, OpenAI Inc. isn't.

I've spent the past weeks asking scientific stuff, enjoyed the conversation and saw its shortcomings. Today, while cooking some rice, I started to chat with it about what my options are, with what I have in the kitchen, and it was a really great interaction. I ended up eating something valuable, and I have a new recipe for what I'm going to cook next. I don't cook. I mostly buy frozen vegetable mixtures or frozen mea…

With apologies for my absolutely appalling French, here's a transcript of ChatGPT giving me a French lesson. It's better than any classroom based language teaching I've experienced: https://gist.github.com/RobinL/98531d70a4679487ab8a0d9395dae...

But aren’t they also burning like $3M or something everyday?

Maybe wishful, but I hope this is to offset the burn rather than make profits. I was worried that they would kill chatGPT because of the burn rate.

Earlier quoted context omitted.

I'll pay up to $150/month for chatGPT but it's a massive nope if they have a credits system. I'll even consider paying more but if the access is metered, my usage pattern will change in precisely the way you describe. At that point, it's not worth it.

How often do you use it to justify paying 150 a month?

Every day, mostly as a coding assistant. Been a HUGE timesaver.

text-davinci-003 is readily available from the openai playground, has the entirety of learning of chatgpt, without any of the safety measures. If you want to pay to remove chatgpt's limitations, that is probably what you're looking for.

What is it that the ChatGPT interface does then, other than the UI and censorship parts?

Someone up the chain said it keeps track of state

Its genius marketing honestly. What other company has basically entire 3rd party subreddits dedicated to defending their products as if its an epoch-defining moment? People will pay whatever for it out of a delusion of moral necessity at this point.

My son asked if which of two animals would win in a fight and we just got a lecture about how fighting is bad. I hope they’ll give an option to turn off what I’m calling “hall monitor mode” That could be worth paying for.

> In: Who would win in an fight: a monkey or a dog? > Out: It would depend on the specific species of monkey and dog, as well as the size and overall physical condition of the individual animals. In general, a larger, stronger dog would likely be able to defeat a smaller monkey in a fight, but a monkey's agility and quickness could potentially give it an advantage over a slower, less agile dog. Additionally, differen…

Sometimes you have to provide it with some context like mentioning that your question is for educational purposes.

So unsurprisingly within 72 hours of my comment highlighting about the first part of my prediction on OpenAI certainly getting more investment as the first phase [0], now they have made the second phase of my prediction becoming true: > ChatGPT by then will become a paid service [1] For the third phase, we'll see how the startups building their entire business on top of OpenAI will last even when OpenAI can also comp…

Do you reckon it’s possible to build on top of OpenAi?

For instance let’s look at Jasper.

The only difference between and ChatGPT is their GTM strategy right?

Or should all startups try to own their models? Or fine train them

I agree that OpenAI's mission statement has always been complete horseshit, but they need to generate revenue eventually or they will run out of money.
