I feel, and I think it's a common thread for my generation, that we have grown weary of drinking from the information firehose. The internet has become like high fructose corn syrup for our brains. We're fat with it. So I want to consume less (low quality information) and create more. I like the idea of "note-writing as fundamental unit of knowledge work"[1] My resolution this year is to read more and to write more,…

Something paradoxical about wishing to create more information and simultaneously wishing to consume less of it.

Even more exercising. I’m doing a half-ironman in Deauville next year. I do fine in swimming and running, but I still need to train for the biking part.

Great! A question - Did you ever get Covid? What effects did it have on your performance in swimming and running?

Dec 2021: I resolve to not spend christmas+new years in the office again. Dec 2022: looks at schedual: hard fail. At least this year the covid rules are gone. But it seems that all the same people are still working at home while all the same other people are at thier desks again over the holidays.

Time to find a new job, friend.

A friend mentioned they aim to make sure that each and every month they experience at least one thing that is new / orthogonal to previous experiences (trips, projects, interactions etc)

While maybe too mechanical its recursive and agnostic nature means that it is more resilient than concrete resolutions that tend to collapse at the first unexpected turn of events

I have, incredibly, held firm to a resolution I made many years ago: never make another new year's resolution. It's better to have a CI approach IMO. Continuous Improvement. There's nothing special about January 1. If you want to do something start now.

for me it feels like i need some kind of closure, the CI you suggest for me is hard, when i take a new year resolution, it feels like kind of starting on a clean slate, f*k all the mistake i made and start fresh, and i was able to do some progress year by year (but very small), i was thinking of making a resolution every year on my birth day, but it feels like a lonely activity, but in new years resolution, i feel like its a communal thing, like ,yay :) lot of people taking resolution and i'm doing one as well, if i fail then i convince my self ,saying, meh i will add it to next year, but i add list of things in my resolution, and finish some, all it comes down to me for is , clean slate , forgive myself if i miss some goals, and i start fresh because its New Year and it means you can start fresh ;-)

Play more video games. I feel like this year I haven't had a chance to get lost in a great video game's narrative. Spent far too much time trying to be productive and not just taking a break to relax. Btw if anyone has any suggestions for games to play. Please share.

Elden Ring got the Game of the Year award for a reason. The narrative is somewhat minimalist and told in fragmented notes, not the type you would see in Mass Effect, for example, but it is there. The biggest points of the game are exploration and challenge, though.

My personal favorite is Citizen Sleeper. Also Signalis is pretty cool somewhat oldschool dreamy horror game.

If you're looking for narrative experiences, Disco Elysium is likely the best video game story ever told - bar none. Maybe not the best story (although it's really good) but the intersection of presentation and prose is exceptional. One of the few times the medium has really surpassed raw text on the storytelling metric. Some of those narrative sequences will stay with me for the rest of my life.

My necktie disagrees with this.
