Otherwise, he did a thing, was told not to do a thing, then went ahead and did it anyways and had the book thrown at him. That was his choice, not some stroke of bad luck.

#5His bad luck, which could be seen as poor choices, led to him attempting to restart his film career in probably the worst possible place given his ethnicity.

Huh? That's not elucidating anything; it's not even a cursory summary. Big dogs eat little dogs isn't help.
Let's start here: what's legal isn't always ethical and vice versa. Second, when legal vs ethical goes sideways, the state has force. Individual's don't. That's important too. Finally what about fear as a basic component of human nature.
I'll leave it this way. Firefly the TV series played this up nice:
- escorts + paid sex was legal even a status card
- theft wasn't esp against the "man"
Mal wasn't having any of that because law enforcer wasn't legit as he saw it. Now what?
