Re: Twitter suspends pg's account [fixed]
#122Wow. PG did not even post any links, he pretty much just said "I have a Mastodon account." And just like that, banned. Looks like now you're not allowed to so much as mention that you use other websites on the internet besides Twitter.
> We recognize that many of our users are active on other social media platforms. However, we will no longer allow free promotion of certain social media platforms on Twitter.
> Specifically, we will remove accounts created solely for the purpose of promoting other social platforms and content that contains links or usernames for the following platforms: Facebook, Instagram, Mastodon, Truth Social, Tribel, Nostr and Post.
And from Elon Musk:
> Casually sharing occasional links is fine, but no more relentless advertising of competitors for free, which is absurd in the extreme.

#126pg in the other thread: "I still think Elon is a smart guy." That didn't age well. Not even a full hour. I can't even think of a food item that would age that quickly.

#127Is is possible this is some sort of "lesson" about the dangers of platforms being able to arbitrarily ban stuff, that will be revealed in a week or two? It almost seems like the exact opposite of everything Musk was implying about a low-censorship platform. It's almost hard to believe that Musk/Twitter are at serious at this point

#129Let’s assume Musk is a rational market participant making rational choices based on what he thinks is reliable data and accurate assumptions. He would be assuming Twitter’s network effect is strong enough to allow authoritarian leadership and decisions that are counter to the majority will. If most of us are still on Twitter, Musk is right and is exercising the control he has of the platform knowing there will be little cost. So is he?

#130At this point, it's worth trying to think if and how Elon Musk can benefit by driving down the value of Twitter. It looks like he's doing it on purpose.
