Limiting reach is not the same as shadow banning which has a specific meaning.

That's not shadow-banning

They fucked up and admitted it (what algo is infallible?)

The fuckup wasn't targeted, it was algorithmic, and it affected both sides of the isle.

Your link literally demonstrates the opposite of your claim.

Why is anyone surprised that the major/globally operating social media companies have extensive internal systems for controlling the content that appears via their platforms? Irrespective of whether or not you agree with individual decisions, the fact that such systems exist should not be a surprise. It’s not the fact that these systems exist, it’s that Twitter denied that they did for years, despite all the evidence to the contrary.

I think it's largely a disagreement on definitions - tweet 7 in the thread even hints at this:

>>>7. What many people call “shadow banning,” Twitter executives and employees call “Visibility Filtering” or “VF.” Multiple high-level sources confirmed its meaning.

My definition of "shadow banning" (or hellbanning) is that the user's tweets/posts are not visible to anyone except them; Twitter was not doing that. Twitter was clear in saying "oh, we limit visibility, don't allow certain things in trending topics, etc." and apparently some people think of that as shadow banning.

I think it’s because they said repeatedly they were doing no such thing.

You really think someone would do that? Just form a corporation and tell lies?

> so you know clearly if you’ve been shadowbanned A shadowban that the user clearly knows about sounds like an oxymoron.

I’m not sure I agree.

Perhaps it’s an issue with the definition of “shadowban”, but I understood it to mean “you tweet, but no one sees”. Letting a user know that their account is in this state for this_reason actually seems like an improvement to me, not an oxymoron.

This all seems like a major publicity stunt. We all know that Twitter is filtering users. The question is why they are filtered. There's a clear bias to specifically show right wingers being banned but other independent sources say it is roughly even. I don't want to really see political leanings so much as I want to see the content that caused them to be flagged in the first place. If someone promotes Nazism or some…

It is there in the thread

> 3. Take, for example, Stanford’s Dr. Jay Bhattacharya (@DrJBhattacharya) who argued that Covid lockdowns would harm children. Twitter secretly placed him on a “Trends Blacklist,” which prevented his tweets from trending.

These Twitter Files are just building on a right wing prior of them being shadow banned. But they have yet to demonstrate that right wingers are specifically targeted. They don't show why these accounts got flagged (the crux of the…

This is exactly right.

Incredible, how openly twitter gas-lights users when it comes to policy enforcement.

Not to mention the commenters here as well: "There's no evidence people and tweets are being suppressed" "This is old news, nothing new here." Is there a mailing list where these things are coordinated? I remember there was JournoList in the late 2000s, so is there a new one for internet commenters of a certain political persuasion? How do they get the talking points memo?

Earlier quoted context omitted.

"Still trying to process my emotions on learning that @twitter blacklisted me. The thought that will keep me up tonight: censorship of scientific discussion permitted policies like school closures & a generation of children were hurt." https://twitter.com/DrJBhattacharya/status/16010379837793894...

Is this an answer to GP's question? If so, I'm having trouble figuring out what it is.

He was blacklisted due to his opposition to school closures and other intrusive NPI's during the pandemic.
