These things are not mutually exclusive. I don't see any evidence that would justify a high degree of confidence that the person you're replying to is wrong.

The extraordinary claim is the top comment: that trans people are exploding in count vs it being a repressed demographic. It is the obligation of THAT person to provide evidence, since they are making the claim that it is some "evil toxin in the environment".
