That about sums it up. Just like when people say "people are so different now; everyone's so " What bullshit. Everything is the same, except the observer's ever increasing age with respect to others.

Ancient observer here - we all know that history doesn't repeat but it rhymes and people are just hairless (mostly), crazy bonobos at heart. The expectation that things will be different somehow goes away if you pay attention to history.

A life where I have paid off my mortgage and my runway is good enough that I can leave a job and take some time off. Maybe a middle ground where I can work for 4 days a week at some boring job and still save a bit of money.

Environment and way of upbringing has changed _massively_ over the last three generations. It would be weird if everybody stayed the same. Gen Z/A grew up with iPads glued to their hands (or, many of them). Of course they will approach things differently, and communicate differently.

My parents just can’t fathom the idea that I‘d do more with and for my kids than the bare minimum required. And I don’t think that’s entirely an individual change, but rather a generational one, too.

Although I appreciate the observation and may agree to some extent, there are confounding factors to consider. Many people have been born into this life because of well-off parents and families, and their attitude toward this life may, indeed, be boring.

But I am sure I would have a lot of fun, as I myself am living a similar life now, though scaled down in breadth and ambition.

A life where animals have a voice and are not used as a commodity; for the greed of humanity.

A planet that isn't abused and sucked dry for old fashioned resources. Care given and respected rather than for profit.

Harmony where conflict is low and that those with the riches always don't win.

Where corruption is tackled and the criminals who sought the most extreme crimes are punished to the full extent.

I want to own the home I live in currently (a family member's we're renting), be working on my own software ideas full time for money, and that's about it. My life is pretty sweet as-is, I just want the "perfect job" (as if that exists) and to own a home. I am pretty lucky to make 170k a year doing very little work, even if it's impactful enough to earn tons of money doing way less work than most others do. I don't want to jinx it, karmically, by being too greedy!

A modest home in a quiet town. A coffee shop, grocery store, and library within walking distance. An airport 30-60 minutes away. Enough land to grow fruit trees for one of my kids (they love fruit) and for a large enough shop for woodworking and metalworking; a few tiny homes for people in my circle in need of temporary housing. Enough space to have a room that is just a library of books. Interesting work with smart yet humble and decent colleagues.
