I'm sure it works across the population at large but I avoid doing business with people who engage in that kind of manipulation. They're fundamentally untrustworthy in my experience.
That’s a big statement.

In a form of putting this at a level of meta-tiers (no, not the company, ugh, why did they ruin one of my favorite words): 1. Is information a neutral abstract unit? 2. Is information as an abstract unit charged with a particular strange attractor? 3. Does language/words hold a particular charge? 4. Is language the life-form and humans the host-form?
What's a "charge" or "charged"? Examples?
Beyond the obvious, let's just suspend what we think is common sense.
"I love you" vs "I hate you"
There is a charge associated with both those sentences and probably at the discrete unit word level which may be associated with particular vowel structures/sounds. I've vaguely looked into a "universal language" of phenotypes/sounds/grammars. I believe it was like 16 and associated roughly 16 base sounds to 16 emotions and may even have found some evidence for cross-species use.

I didn't want to imply that. Educated people can be wrong alright. However really educated people are rarely absolute in their positions because they know that the world is not black and white and almost always the answer is "it depends" and "let's see it from the other side". However polarizing views are attracting to non educated minds because they often give their believers simplistic views, potential enemies and…
Do you think you (and your ingroup members) do not suffer from any of these sort of problems, or suffer from them substially less on an absolute scale ?
I have caught myself many times to crave for the simplistic easy answer and the ready made explanation. The one that tingles your ego suggesting: "How can nobody thought of that? Wow! I am really smart or all other are dump which is about the same.".
In order to escape its allure it takes one or more of the below:
a) self discipline which is not possible to have for all matters and domains b) external factors that force you to delve in to the thing at hand (a job) c) in specific instances you make it a hobby and you gain more intimate knowledge that can't be simplistic black and white.

> No pictures and no avatars This is essentially moderation rule #0. it is unwritten, enforced before violation can occur, and generates zero complaints because it filters complainers out of the user pool from the start.
The no-avatars rule also takes away some of the personalization aspect. If you set your account up with your nickname, your fancy unique profile picture and your favorite quote in the signature, and someone says you're wrong, you're much more invested because you've tied some of your identity to the account. If you've just arrived on the site, have been given a random name and someone says you're wrong, what do you c…
Once you’re confident that you can’t be wrong, you’re not going to care about the topic anymore. There is good reason why we don’t sit around talking about how 1+1=2 all day.

they made a couple of statements. Which are you asking for clarification on?
If there is a lot of food, people will lean towards sharing their food, and helping others - even anonymously in a truly "altruistic" sense. If everyone is starving, people will lean towards violence and stealing. This.

#956Whenever there is a profile with handle in a format similar to: @jondoe123456, emojis in the name, and emojis and hashtags in bio, especially related to political/religious topics: 99% chance that this is a bot or a troll with multiaccount.

I think this gets almost all the way there but not quite — there is one more vital point: How we act depends on our environment and incentives. It is possible to build environments and incentives that make us better versions of ourselves. Just like GPT-3, we can all be primed (and we all are primed all the time, by every system we use). The way we got from small tribes to huge civilizations is by figuring out how to…
How do you go about determining what is collaborative or "bridging" discourse, though? That seems like a tricky task. You have to first identify the topic being discussed and then make assumptions based on past user metrics about what their biases are. Seems like you would have to have a lot of pre-existing data specific to each user before you could proceed. Nascent social networks couldn't pull this off.
This seems no different from "popularity based" ranking mechanisms (e.g. Reddit) where the downvote functionality can be used to suppress other content.
Maybe the assumption is that both camps will be abusing the negative interactions? But you can always abuse more.
How is such system protected from someone manipulating the consensus by employing a troll farm (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Troll_farm)?

I believe the underlying problem is the actual human programming deep in our genes. People tend to get organized in clans (i.e. football teams in Europe, political parties etc) and to host polarized opinions such as conspiracy theories that tend to question the status quo. There are two reasons for that: 1. Psychological Reason: It is tempting for an non educated man to adopt an opinion that derides existing knowledg…
You write "i.e." when you should write "e.g.".
i.e. - id est - "that is" (i.e. a clarifying restatement of what was just said)
e.g. - exempli gratia - "for example" ("I like to post comments about language and usage of English, e.g. clarifying the use of certain Latin abbreviations")

#960Musk is betting on the $8 membership being a big hit, which immediately addresses a lot of the moderation issues. It's gonna be a completely different paradigm than reddit. Herding cats into a box painted onto the ground vs. herding cats into a 8' high cage.
In my eyes, $8 creates more problems than solves. It's the normal, human twitter users who are more likely to NOT want to pay. The people who use Twitter to make money or obviously going to be most likely to pay the $8.
