As someone who has to use scrollbars for accessibility reasons, I too hate the war on scrollbars. It is such a useful, battle-tested UI component.

I personally run everything maximized or tiled side by side. I never understood the value in seeing 20% of some other window behind the current.

I know plastik feels so old and out of date. But it feels more tactile to me because of the higher gradients.

Plastik was the height of KDE style and usability for me. It looked similar to but way better than Windows XP, and KDE could do so much more. Then KDE4 got lost in an ugly, buggy mess of transparency.

And Oxygen (the default theme), used a depressing gray. On KDE 4, I used Fusion or Cleanlooks (a port of the Clearlooks GTK theme).

KDE 5 went the other way and Breeze looks great. I sometimes try other theme but always come back to Breeze. I even used Breeze on GNOME and found it better-looking than Adwaita.

You wait a bit until it is merged and you get it with updates. Then you click on it in settings.

They're different beasts. In fact, they're different enough that they have their own niches. Gnome is the boring, serious, stop-fiddling-and-get-things-done UI. Gnome these days is the my-way-or-the-highway kind of uncle.

They're actively hostile to user theming, for example, and keep removing features simply because they don't think users need them, like desktop icons.

Their file browser is horrible to use. Their image viewer is anaemic.

They keep finding new ways to dumb their applications down, to make things less "confusing" for the users, I suppose.

They adopted MacOS-style headerbars, but ignored Apple's solution to the lack of functionality that brings ~ their Menu Bar.

Can you please point out what that means in that sceenshot? Fonts generally got pretty good with fontconfig, but I suppose there are always some edge cases.

Perhaps lowercase o gets excessive space? I'm guessing here. It's the only element that seems even remotely mis-kerned.

For example look at the "New" in the dark screen. N/e too wide compared to e/w.

Looks like equal distance but there is more blurring between e and w so they can appear closer.

That would take years.

I use Debian Stable.

I think Plasma has something like "Decorations" - can a custom decoration be used? Can one use scripts in the "Decorations"?
