I don't think Airbyte requires a data warehouse either. Both managed and self-hosted Airbyte are standalone platforms. A source or destination can be a data warehouse, but it can directly sync data from HubSpot to Google Sheet or elsewhere without any DWH in the middle.

I think a major difference is that MovingLake seems to be managed-only with no self-hosted version currently.

Other differences I'm seeing is in the number of connectors and quality of documentation.

Signup form is not actually showing any feedback in case, required fields are missing, just a silent error thrown in the console. Should fix that asap as it may cause signup drops for you guys. Anyways Congratulation for the launch, seems like an interesting product.

A few questions, mostly because I'm somewhat interested:

1. How does this handle rate limiting on the target?

2. Who writes new connectors? Moving Lake only? Or can users create their own connectors (e.g. in Segment)?

3. You charge per event - but what are there batch connectors (also to overcome rate limits on targets)?

4. I'm curious why someone would choose to use Moving Lake over Segment? Are you beating them on pricing?

Have you evaluated self-hosted Airbyte? Can run on client's VPC infra. Has connectors for SAP, Salesforce, some other CRMs, S3. Not sure about own versioning strategy though.

The cost for evaluating solutions is quite high in energy and time. Plus, we will end up pushing this vendor to all our clients, so it has to be absolutely stainless and work with everyone, and everywhere.

Airbyte, looks "okay by the cover". If I want to go any further I would need to see what happens when I need to extract data from an esoteric, unsupported, undocumented, Java-based ERP that is no longer sold by its own developer. Unfortunately, I don't have the time nor the skills to do it. So, in the end, we let our clients write their own ETLs on their own stuff and match their datasets to our data model.

Unless I make the happy uncounter with a tool that focus on these forgotten ERP and CRM and don't completely break down when it encounters a weird FTP server serving "encrypted zip files", I'll just let it go.

Having a "Facebook ads" connector is not enough, and not where problems lies.

can you expand on what an "event" is, perhaps in the context of AWS DMS? I'm a customer in this space and my biggest complaint is the prcicing models make it impossible to reasonably predict costs for my use-case, which ultimately hurts new entrants like you because I just can't invest that much time to try and evaluate the opportunity. Looking at you Fivettran.

An event would be any change in the representation of an individual entity in the data. We understand that it's not trivial to estimate the overall cost, so we offer a free evaluation period so customers can estimate how much will they be spending monthly.
