#3Sigh. It almost makes one wish for the (rather mythical) Good Old Days - when King Charles could have ordered that the current wretched lot of politicians be drawn & quartered. With their replacements given front-row seats at the spectacle, "as a sign of the King's favor". And reminder that they'd best prove worthy of said royal favor.
Panem et circenses.

Or when people took to the streets when stuff got bad. I feel the modern citizen feels so powerless to change the status quo that the political circus is an accidental form of entertainment we use to escape from the reality of it. Panem et circenses.

#7Paul Krugman called this "the moron risk premium" https://twitter.com/paulkrugman/status/1573656086716071937 https://www.ft.com/content/08908266-cc47-4cda-b8d4-97a8ac433...
The UK's situation is no different from continental redistributionist disasters - big government, too much spending.
The only reason why the US hasn't fallen to that level is that the dollar is a major reserve currency.

Well I'd settle for the good old days when it wasn't just old people that voted, or the good old days when a party had the good grace to implode whilst out of power, or the good old days when Europe was the Tories whipping boy rather than its own party. Id even settle for the good old days when Johnson wasn't still seen as a viable candidate. Still!
