The significance of minorities to those with power is the issue here, after all. I'm aware most people will happily continue supporting a bigot who makes things that please them.

I've read her writing on the subject and it's rather a stretch to call her a bigot. It's possible to have a subtle position where you believe the rights of one group shouldn't override another. How can we possibly discuss a subject when someone like her, who can write thoughtfully but holds a different but not totally oppositional position is attacked so vehemently?

I've also tried to read her books and think they're pretty pants. Boring stories, bad prose, tiresome characters.

How disrespectful, what a disparaging framing of what really happened: Coltrane was defending a friend and colleague from the abuse and death threats she'd received for speaking up on women's rights. Actually very honourable behaviour on his part. He was a great actor and a good man.

I'm glad the article had mention of Cracker, it really is amongst Robbie Coltrane's finest work. The Hillsborough episode with Robert Carlyle was a exceptionally dramatic production, with incredibly powerful performances from them both.

Absolutely agree. Probably the best police drama I've ever watched. Note that when Cracker was on TV, he won the BAFTA award for best actor each of the three years.

Came in to say that. It was a hard watch, e.g. the one with the serial rapist. But to this day I judge every police drama in comparison to that. They all come short.
