Anyway, this just seems like yet another hysterical article like those from Carlin's heyday and before, warning us of that old slippery slope: how we're a few steps away from normalizing pedophilia. Not a new idea, but do you know what that idea is based on? The advancement of human rights in the west.

Implicit in the 'slippery slope' argument is the view that "first it was marriage for the gays, then legalizing transgenders, then they'll marry their dogs, and then your kids, look out!". You don't even have to state this in this article, as others have already made the case. You can now write junk like this and coast on the residual waves others made. There are willing minds for this nonsense to go to. Meanwhile, pedophilia panic becomes entirely obviously unfounded when you take away the contextual crutch that is the rapid advancement of rights for queer people. It's just more unjustified fearmongering at the expense of that maligned community, that can park right next to the meme of bugchasing being a widespread practice, fears that they're converting our kids to be gay and trans, etc.

As a technologist, in my view, never before have pedophiles been more in the spotlight in this space, so much so that the privacy of all individuals is threatened. New technologies like cloud storage have been co-opted as surveillance mechanisms to catch these people. There are teams of police actively hunting abusers in these spaces, and countries collaborate across borders to get them. If you want to find cultures where child abuse is rampant and unchecked, it isn't our digital one. I would look to poorer countries instead, where women have few rights and the rule of law is weak, where children are trafficked on a regular basis.
