It's a ceiling on the performance that can be exported. In an exponentially scaling industry, this is the equivalent of an announcement in advance of a complete ban on competitive products 2-3…

soooo..... if china and russia do a collab and reverse engineer the existing A100, what.... will USA or nvidia do? like sue them? haha

This is what the West tried to do with Russia. Germany especially was heavy on economic ties. "Surely if we're economically tied together, Russia won't risk their prosperity by full-on invading another country!" How well did that turn out for them?

They cannot manufacture such advanced chip even if they have circuit design.

A majority of Americans support defending Taiwan from Chinese invasion. How much are the Chinese people willing to pay to attempt the largest amphibious invasion since D-Day while being starved of oil and international trade?

Chips are mostly development cost; once designed they cost little to produce and even less with economies of scale. Cutting yourself off the massive Chinese market will cause more expensive tech in the west as there are fewer people to sponsor its development.

Yeah. What I wrote is what in general happens long term. Short term all short of things can happen: a factory burns down - dram spikes in price, covid, financial crisis kills demand firesale across the board, spike in crypto drives up gpu demand etc etc

Can they stop reselling into those countries from countries where it is legal to export to? I am curious how it's effective unless the US has negotiated with every legal export market not to resell. Or are they willing to concede that but assume anything high enough volume to worry about couldn't work through that kind of channel?

Exactly. It would get pinned on some poor engineer just like the Volkswagen diesel stuff.

That’s why an individual contributor should not take part in it. It’s better to get a different job.
