Hi. I'm a backend software developer with a zillion years experience at a variety of enterprise behemoths. A lot of that has been fintech of one flavour or another and lately I've been working for a small cryptocurrency exchange. I have well over 20 years experience building shit-that-works in Java, often based on Spring and Hibernate. I'm a Linux guy at heart and I particularly enjoy poking at that side of things in the cloud.

I'm mainly looking for some kind of very hands-on staff engineer role with a larger org, or a real chance to steer the technical and social culture at an early stage startup. A role that also gives me the opportunity to further bootstrap my pathetic novice level Rust skills would be particularly interesting.

I will only be considering remote-first roles, although I am more than happy to make occasional visits to a real office.

I will be available from the beginning of October. Please note that I won't work for gambling or gambling-adjacent businesses.

Have a web app you’re considering rewriting? Maybe it uses older tech. Maybe your devs don’t want to touch it. Maybe you’re hoping all or some of it can be salvaged. Regardless, a rewrite can be one of the most expensive and time consuming things your company will ever do. You owe it to yourself to get a second opinion.

I offer an independent, fixed price service where I assess your current solution, engage with your stakeholders, and present you with the best options going forward. This takes place over a 2-4 week period, after which you’ll be in a much better position to proceed. Or not, as the case may be.

When it comes to rewrite attempts I’ve seen it all. Before, after, during. The good, the bad and the ugly. Your system will not scare me. It will not affect me emotionally. My advice is impartial and based on pragmatic criteria, not which tech stack I want on my resume.

So send me an email - tell me why you’re thinking of re-writing, what you hope it will solve, and what you foresee going wrong. I’ll give you an initial 30 minute consultation for free, and we can decide where to go from there.

Highlights from my work at Stationhead include: * building our first revenue-generating feature, owning it from ideation and architecture design through to implementation and delivery; * leading the team bringing Android development in-house to improve the quality of the app, user experience, and increase the tempo of developing new features.

I'm redirecting my career path from industrial maintenance management to software development.

I've done, among other things, over 10 years of code maintenance and functions extensions in a live industrial production environments.

My current preferred tool set: Python, PostgreSQL, Django, Git, Docker, Linux. Now I prefer boring tools which allow me to concentrate on the problem at hand.

I'm open to other tools as needed.

My most recent project is Polish law change monitoring service available at https://unkot.pl. The source code https://gitlab.com/stakent/unkot

In the past I've used go (golang), cython, neural networks with feedback loops running on CPUs, genetic programming.

I've designed and implemented event driven architecture with log based source of truth for the system which is distributed, eventually consistent, can work with unreliable network.
