There is, but it's called moderation when you agree with it, and censorship when you don't.

And for whatever action you do, the majority will usually think you're wrong. But, on the plus side, you're also wrong when you are "providing a platform for it" (aka not doing anything).

I'm always surprised at how well dang manages this, although he definitely receives his share of critic from all sides, too.

You're describing how you have general views into twitter, but which are imperfect and require _active_ maintenance on your part to retain utility.

My experience is that _while engaging in that maintenance_ Twitter rapidly depleted in utility and value for me, because the dark patterns that encourage outrage engagement infected all those that I follow. It's simply not possible, AFAICT, to actively filter Twitter for strong content and not eventually either recede into accepting outrage or reducing one's feed to uselessness.

You're 100% correct. They shut down Vine. TikTok is now a billion dollar industry. As far as I'm concerned, every product manager involved in that decision shouldn't be involved with Twitter anymore, because they display an astonishingly level of incompetence.

Does anyone know _why_ Vine was shut down? Was it just a major cost center or something?

I have to disagree with that one. This discussion -- content moderation-- is one of the most political topics possible. More things are political than most people realize.

However, I do think that the quality of the political discourse here is much better than other places; it is often just based on ideas, and even if they're plainly wrong, they're not usually presented in an inflammatory way. That is what sets things apart, rather than the lack of politics.

Yes, but people don't buy vehicles simply for commutes, and IC vehicles will be around for decades for actual work. Nobody along the gulf or southern east coast is going to be buying an electric car as their sole mode of transportation if they have any common sense.

The money they make for investors is a direct measurement of the value they create.

Not in the short run. In the short run markets can be irrational (which I believe they are with Tesla), in the long run sure

The incoming cashflow is substantial and if they simply cut off the R&D it would be a very profitable company.

Generally most of software development (including what you would think of as maintenance) is counted as R&D for tax purposes
