It’s not relevant. Is anyone expecting him to be the CEO? Far more likely he’s going to appoint competent operators to run Twitter. Whether this is a good outcome for the shareholders is the only germane point up for discussion IMO.

I haven't seen much evidence he's good at delegating. Such as how he remains in control of his own Twitter despite the SEC warnings and penalties. He doesn't need to spend much time with his companies to damage them.

Don’t you think it would have been very visible if he were bad at delegating? His companies tend to produce results - not always on time, but that’s to be expected in greenfield projects right?

Both of you guys who have responded to my comment have been rampaging through this thread with aggressive defenses of Musk. This is not normal behaviour. If you don't want to consider a man who was instrumental in saving the lives of 12 boys a hero that's fine, there are lots of other adjectives that I'm sure you can find and they're all far more flattering than the one Musk made of himself in that saga. Take a step…

You call it aggressive, I just responding with happened rather then what the cheap clickbait media outlets who provided form this crisis wanted to claim happened. > instrumental There was a professional diving team that saved the children he was not himself doing it. And even if he was pushing yourself into the media and making headlines by insulting somebody who tried to help is not really a good look. Specially bec…

Calling somebody a pedo because they insulted your work on TV is unstable behaviour. So is repeating the claim to journalists and saying explicitly you really literally meant it, throwing more insults in, settling the libel case and then repeating the claims again. Actually, unstable is one of the nicest adjectives you could use about this abhorrent behaviour.

Your defences and explanations are all irrelevant and rely on minimising it as "saying something bad" and "on Twitter". That isn't adding anything to the conversation.

The Elephant in the room is what is being provided. Elon is already at the limits of his hours on a daily basis to devote to things with SpaceX, Boring Company, Tesla, etc. Picture it this way, Twitter is your startup and Elon proposes to buy you out. Would you not question how much time we would devote as part of the buyout talks?

From a strictly financial shareholder perspective, it doesn’t matter if he shuts it down tomorrow. There may be many people holding Twitter that care more about the product then the financials though.

LBO meet BBO.

It really depends on if he follows through on what he is proposing, which seems to be to allow for disinformation and hate speech. If that turns out to not be the case, then I might reconsider.

He also said he wanted to make far more accounts with verified identity and he wants to fight bots. Fighting bots seems to me the opposite of 'allow disinformation'. Also, are we currently blocking people for pushing disinformation? Did I miss something?

It's not disinformation if you agree with the bots politically. Gotta keep that dopamine raging somehow.

Also I've lost count of how much of last year's 'disinformation' became this year's 'that totally happened'.

The problem with lending to him is most of his assets are TSLA shares. It's arguably absurdly overvalued as an automaker, and any effort to liquidate his position would be expensive since it would drive the price down. Someone did it, but I'm sure some people passed. As someone else pointed out, TWTR isn't a great purchase, either. Its ad revenue isn't great, so if he defaults on the loan, the lender is stuck with an…

They did it at a 5x multiple. They can cover the loan as long as Tesla stays above 203.

That would be a bit lower than Toyota's value. Toyota sold 10.5M vehicles last year. Tesla sold 930k. Yes, Tesla's growth is solid, but the valuation is because of the true believers. I avoid investing in anything Elon touches because valuations get weird.

It is also a simplification to highlight his achievements without also acknowledging that he doesn’t seem to be a very moral or stable person. Some of the criticism of his behavior is clearly sour grapes that he doesn’t act “properly” for a billionaire, but there are also many examples of him being a bad person a la Steve Jobs. We tolerate the characteristics because of the perceived value, but it would also be nice…

How is he 'unstable' exactly? He has been leading successful companies for 30 years and pretty much every company he has been involved in has been highly successful. He has never been unstable, just opinionated. And people don't like that so they call him psychologically unstable instead. What he has done that is bad and why people hate him: - Called somebody something bad on twitter once. - Twits dumb memes with dum…

He makes everyone playing at performative ‘seriuz buzniss’ look unserious by juxtaposition, especially since he got the highest $core in their main game.

A judge recently said he was a liar and it was so far beyond dispute that a jury would not be allowed to decide for themselves, as they might be influenced by Musk's ongoing public BSing such as with the TED talk. So, no, informed people are not "casually" calling him a liar.

> A judge recently said he was a liar I sincerely doubt that. Judges don’t tend to talk that way, regardless of the case at hand.

GP is probably refering to this (in which case you are right, judge didn't use words like liar)

https://arstechnica.com/tech-policy/2022/04/judge-in-musk-tr...

"Judge in Musk trial will tell jury that “Funding secured” tweets were false"

and

"[T]hough 'jury instructions are often an ineffective remedy,' the Court finds that unlikely to be true for the instant case where the jury will be told that the Court has already found that the August 2018 tweets were false and made with the requisite scienter [knowledge of wrongdoing]," Chen wrote.

I’ve been following SpaceX for many years. Usually, Musk says that he works only on SpaceX and Tesla. He spends basically no time on Boring or any of his other companies.

I doubt that he plans to run Tw himself. Tw’s problem is that it is run by ideologues. To remove the ideologues is the main goal of this entire move. That step alone would probably double the value of the company.

Nowhere in the emails do the Saudi investors pledge funding. At best, they say they might be interested in investing. Therefore, "funding secured " was absolutely an outright lie, unless words don't have meaning anymore.

It’s much worse than that. I had previously assumed Musk knew what he was doing and was fooling around on Twitter in an effort to (unethically) crush short sellers. Now it appears like he’s an utterly inept businessman who took the first verbal sign of interest, rushed it to Twitter as though the deal was complete, and then blew up the deal in a hissy fit. I still think what he’s done at SpaceX and Tesla is admirable…

The chutzpah of your armchair analysis!

You just called the most successful businessman in the world an 'utterly inept businessman'.

Literally the wealthiest person in the world and all achieved through business success!

Defined and successfully delivering on multiple new markets, with a string of serial successes.

Free speech, A truer town square to debate important issues, Remove bots, add new features, a fresh take on how to raise profits, better management, and he even mentioned building a homeless shelter in their HQ.

What’s free speech? Twitter can be a pretty hostile place if you’re not a white straight man, can’t see Musk making it any betters for those people who are currently harrassed fir being women, queer or colored

> Twitter can be a pretty hostile place if you’re not a white straight man

I've never seen that. I've been a Twitter user since 2009.
