I don't really bring my desktop computers in sketchy situations where they might get wet. They tend to sit in the exact same spot on my desk in my office for their entire lifetime. It'd be a weird trade off to design a desktop computer for physical durability and water resistance...

I'm talking about laptops - if this is a desktop then I stand corrected (though it still applies to the higher-end versions of the laptops which would be at a similar price). I guess the non-repairability and non-upgradability arguments still apply though, even more so for desktops (some parts in my gaming desktop are still from 2011).

True, but you could still have a TouchID button on the side. I get price is the main reason, I'm just saying that I personally wouldn't want to be rocking a device designed in 2014 in 2027.

If all their models looked the same, the top models wouldn’t signal wealth as well. Seems you’re a bit sensitive to that.

Not really, I'm daily driving a rooted $300 2019 Xiaomi, but the thing does have an edge-to-edge display, and thin bezels are a godsend for people with small hands, like me.

Apple probably has 0 interest in entering the server market. Anyone who wants a bigger CPU than the M1 ultra would probably be better served using a cloud. My company gives everyone a $2k macbook, but guess what, all our development still happens on our cloud, because laptops will never be able to compile as quickly as build farms.

Doesn't matter if Apple has interest in the server market; the server market has interest in Mac Studios.

I can see a rack of these in someone's datacenter. Can you imagine the render farm that could be created?

I'm not sure how to compare the 128GB "unified" RAM with the 80GB dedicated video RAM on a A100. I suppose it might even be an advantage to unify RAM, so you don't have to copy back and forth between the CPU and GPU?

That and I think you can genuinely use all 128GB so long as you're not trying to run something else on the CPU at the same time. So a bit bigger than 80GB.

yes, you can. i don't know if people here are too young to remember before Steve Jobs return, Apple was in the gutter. Steve had to make a deal with Microsoft to inject money into Apple. no one stand at the top forever. if it happened before it will happen again.

Well, that’s not exactly what happened.

MS only “injected” $250 million in Apple. Apple turned around and used $100 million to buy Power Computings Mac assets. The $150 million left did not “save” Apple at the rate it was losing money.

Yup, that and all the hand movements (along with the usual grandiose words used) were so distracting that I just stopped watching it.

And that fake "lab" environment (100% rendered, I guess?) with computers and monitors having no cables, random single tools that make no sense lying alone on a "clean" table, etc.

I like small phones, and the SE was one of my choices up until recently. I thought I was going to wait for the iphone 14 mini but it doesn't seem to happen. So I decided to bite on the iPhone 13 mini. So far it's better than the SE 2nd I've been using since the release. The 13 mini is a bit smaller, the battery is significantly better, the camera is also a lot better and the portrait is available to mostly everything…

I don't think the Docker VM is going to phase that crazy machine.
