Apple events used to be something I really looked forward too but they are kind of boring now. The hype they give in their events is starting to feel almost a parody of itself. I don't know, I can't put my finger on it, but for me the magic is gone and they should just announce at CES along with everyone else.
For me it's mostly that they no longer announce anything that I _want_. I guess I'm not a pro-sumer looking to spend $3k+ on a workstation.

Face ID is a step back in usability for most cases, since you have to be looking at your phone to unlock it. Touch ID and Face ID are both mixed bags. Would be great if they had both, but I understand that space is at a premium and they may want to push for a single authentication solution.

The pace at which apple is pumping out new silicon is astounding. It’s hard to imagine anyone competing with them pound for pound, especially in the flops per watt game. A wide stance implies surefootedness and confidence. They are absolutely coached to appear the most certain they can when marketing/communicating statistics.
It just strikes me as weird. Nobody is going to be impressed by your power stance in some off-brand vans and jeans.
128GB of RAM in M1 Ultra is unimpressive compared to 1.5TB of RAM in Mac Pro. Right now Apple doesn’t have a replacement for Mac Pro with Apple Silicon EDIT: At the end of the presentation Apple said Mac Pro refresh is coming later so let’s wait and see
Wow $4k is pretty crazy. I'm not saying it's a bad deal, just that it's enough to make someone think "do I really need this". I can build a powerhouse PC for $2k.
I've always stuck with entry-level MacBooks for that reason - it's a more reasonable amount of money to lose and allows me to not care too much about it even in sketchy situations where you wouldn't want to bring a 4k$ non-waterproof device.
I realize this is totally off-topic, but has anyone else noticed how wide-stanced all of the presenters have been? Like your legs don’t stand that far apart normally; the announcer right now seems to literally need to constantly shift her legs to keep her standing stance so wide. I’ve noticed this a couple of other places too; is some body coach teaching the weirdest crap out in California right now?
Can't wait for June to see what the actual Mac Pro will look like. Good thing they mentioned that.
It's too bad the 13/14 mini is going away. That being said I think the SE should be plenty for me. Edit : To phrase this a bit better, it's too bad the "mini" model doesn't seem likely to continue into past the 13 mini.
