So the 27 inch iMac is dead?

I realize this is totally off-topic, but has anyone else noticed how wide-stanced all of the presenters have been? Like your legs don’t stand that far apart normally; the announcer right now seems to literally need to constantly shift her legs to keep her standing stance so wide. I’ve noticed this a couple of other places too; is some body coach teaching the weirdest crap out in California right now?
Huh, M1 ultra is ~2x M1 Max, so: 16 + 4 cores and 128GB RAM And it seems that Apple aren't currently planning on making a bigger chip for now. Apple probably has 0 interest in entering the server market. Anyone who wants a bigger CPU than the M1 ultra would probably be better served using a cloud. My company gives everyone a $2k macbook, but guess what, all our development still happens on our cloud, because laptops will never be able to compile as quickly as build farms.

Face ID is a step back in usability for most cases, since you have to be looking at your phone to unlock it. Doesn’t work if you’re in the car and need to unlock for CarPlay, doesn’t work if someone else needs to change music, doesn’t work if the phone’s in your pocket and you want Siri to continue telling you privileged info. You can flip a switch in the settings to turn off the requirement to look at the phone to unlock it.

It's actually 2000$ with the 'height-adjustable' stand - the exact price of an iMac from 2015 that came with the exact same LCD monitor - except, you know, there was also a computer in there!

It’s been consistently rumored since even before the iPhone 13 that the 13 mini would be the last mini, due to (unfortunately) lower-than-expected sales of the 12 mini. I think the point is that 13 mini is still available and likely will be for a few years, since Apple usually sells old models for that long. This remains true even if there is no 14 mini. My guess is that when 13 mini is no longer available new, Apple will have another small-phone solution available. If not I will hold on to my 13 mini the same way other folks hold on to Touch ID. This mini size is perfect.
They usually only sell the mainstream models longer. The iPhone 6/7/8 form factor was continued with the SE 2020 and now 2022, but the Plus wasn’t. So I’m not too hopeful for the mini.
128GB of RAM in M1 Ultra is unimpressive compared to 1.5TB of RAM in Mac Pro. Right now Apple doesn’t have a replacement for Mac Pro with Apple Silicon EDIT: At the end of the presentation Apple said Mac Pro refresh is coming later so let’s wait and see

Apple events used to be something I really looked forward too but they are kind of boring now. The hype they give in their events is starting to feel almost a parody of itself. I don't know, I can't put my finger on it, but for me the magic is gone and they should just announce at CES along with everyone else.
For me it's mostly that they no longer announce anything that I _want_. I guess I'm not a pro-sumer looking to spend $3k+ on a workstation.
The Ultra with all those 'neural engines' is a steal at four grand, if you need it.
