SEEKING WORK - Remote US - DevOps

I'm available to:

- Help you migrate from Jenkins to a more modern CI platform, like GitHub Actions, to reduce operational overhead and iterate faster.

- Help your team evaluate emerging technologies and processes. CircleCI or GitHub Actions? Kubernetes or Nomad? GitOps or ChatOps? How do you know what's likely going to be a fad and what's not? I can help your team avoid costly mistakes when adopting new tools and processes.

- Scale your DevOps processes. Should your company adopt full-stack teams that own the entire delivery pipeline, or should a specialized team of internal experts own the pipelines? These are the questions I can help you answer so that you can decide on the right trade-offs that make sense for your company as it scales to avoid future expensive migrations.

- Do implementation work. Maybe you're a small team that doesn't have enough DevOps resources. I can augment your team, dive in, and start delivering fast. I'm well-versed in terraform, Kubernetes, docker, etc. I can help you build repeatable pipelines, documentation and provide a smooth hand-off to your internal team.

- Need something else? Please don't hesitate to reach out.

In the past, I've:

- Saved a company $500k a year in CI infrastructure costs.

- Worked with several hundred engineer organizations to migrate from Jenkins to GitHub Actions.

- Introduced configuration as code and GitOps best practices to teams.

- Built dynamic review environments triggered on a pull request.

I've written about GitHub Actions and it was on the front page recently: https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=28460342

I'll have some part-time (15-20 hrs) availability in the future.

SEEKING FREELANCER | NYC | Remote Yes

I work with clients in a wide array of industries, helping them better understand their business software needs. Though my focus is on scrappy prototypes and proofs-of-concept, some of the projects do escape into actual use.

I am looking for subcontractor(s) to assist in two general capacities:

- Project discovery, requirements gathering and design, and backlog management. If you have a keen understanding of user behavior and an uncanny knack for organization, you'd be a great addition. - Ops- and infrastructure-focused development. If you nerd out on observability and dream in some IaaC language, I want to talk to you. I'm NOT looking for someone to be on call.

Since the projects vary widely, specific technologies are not required. Don't worry if you're not yet an expert! Rather, your ability to quickly be productive in new tools is much more important. Most of our projects involve integrations of disparate (and often legacy) business systems, so you'll need to be comfortable jumping around.

If any of this sounds interesting to you, let's talk! Email me at @ dot com.

SEEKING WORK | SF Bay Area | Remote OK

Technologies: Python, Scala, Ruby, Javascript, Haskell, Vue, React, Postgres, Cassandra, Kafka, Samza, Spark

You are: pushing the boundaries of what can be done programmatically with words, text, phonemes, or music (or an analogous domain dealing with sequences such as finance or bioinformatics) and need an individual who is capable of high-level strategic contributions, aligning stakeholders from all aspects of the business, is a strong technical architect, can grow and mentor an engineering organization, and is actively involved in the code.

I am: a poet, lyricist, pianist, and principal engineer with a wholistic focus on business needs and a love for creative problem-solving. Over the last decade I've designed, architected, built, maintained, and trained my replacements to handle:

    - query generators for navigating complex and sprawling medical databases where errors are measured in lives lost
    - constraint-based systems for music composition
    - low- and no-code platforms for form generation, UIs, workflow engines, and event-sourced stream processing
I excel in: strategic consultation, growing and mentoring engineering teams, and breaking down complex technical and operational issues in a manner that is sensitive to both organizational incentives and feasibility.

I have a special knack for: finding creative solutions to problems you didn't know you had.

Email me at my HN username at gmail if you're interested in discussing further.
