There's people like me that already get a bad feeling about their entire landing page including all assets breaking the 1MB barrier: "Having an image in the >150kB range? Ewww, let's put that quality slider further to the left!"
But this guy? Wow! Having 4MB as a logo that makes up only 38x38 pixels on a 1080p screen is an absolute chad move when it comes to bandwidth. And yes, the website is still loading here, too. I wonder why ... :^)

I think what you’re referring to is a known issue with how their server handles cloudflares 1.1.1.1 DNS, not them intentionally being shady.
No, what I am referring to is that they show me a captcha page that they have ripped off from cloudflare.
It is shockingly similar looking. At first I thought they were on an expensive enough Cloudflare plan to remove branding. But 1. the site owner has beef with Cloudflare and 2. Cloudflare doesn't use recaptcha anymore so it does just seem like a very similar theme (IDK if it was actually copied or not, it is not that complex of a design).

Is this a real problem?
While there have been malicious packages found in the AUR before[0], I haven't heard of a cryptominer sneaking in... yet.
One was found in the Ubuntu Snap store at one point though[1]

I'm still in process of saving that one, but I can tell that's a GIF animation.
Update: It's 240 frames of a spinning dodecahedron.
