I'm curious about Stephen Diehl's assertion that functional may not be the way to go. I'm waiting for him to elaborate. He works in finance, programs mostly in Haskell, and is a fierce web3 critic:

After spending nearly a decade on functional programming I have learned a ton of interesting things and met a lot of interesting people. But I can't say I'm terribly bullish on the paradigm anymore. There's some inescapable brute facts about its efficacy that are hard to ignore.
