M1 Max has a cross-die interconnect they photoshopped out of the marketing die shots, so I fully expect Apple to ship dual-Max configs on the Pro. (Also, RIP one of the most tinkerer-friendly Mac configs in a very long time.)
I expect them to come up with something much crazier with a newer design, perhaps in the M2 generation. Doesn't mean much, but the IRQ controller architecture and driver in these machines claim to scale to 8 dies, even though the existing implementation in the M1 Max is sized for 2. That's no guarantee they're looking at a product like that, but they might be.

Can you elaborate? I don't have a MacBook (but have been considering getting one), but I can't imagine that you need more that 16 GB of RAM to run a browser, no matter how memory-hungry Chrome might be. Is this really an issue? Maybe you're trolling? I don't understand how adding more memory is going to fix your performance. It's not like you're spinning up a HDD to swap. What do you regret?
Chrome has separate processes and fewer tabs on my machine. Still summing them up seems to reach 3gb.
IntellJ takes 6gb on my machine so it's the biggest individual user of RAM.
I think parent post might be exaggerating but I have the 64gb M1 Max.

Apple has an architectural license, which is why they are so insistent on calling them "Apple Silicon" in branding instead of ARM. The only thing the Apple M1 has in common with ARM is the instruction set. The actual core design? Completely Apple. No Cortex X1s or A73s in there. Apple also provided almost all the funding and initial leadership for the venture, while Acorn supplied most of the engineers and VLSI the silicon tooling.
